I Wish!

Dallen loves to read his scripture stories to Dawsen. I'm constantly amazed by both how much he's picking up on and also how messed up and mushed together the stories occasionally get. i.e....

Dallen once told Dawsen about Abinadi and how when the bad guys burned him he died and then was resurrected three days later. Hmmmm....close...kind of.

Last week Dallen was telling Dawsen about Adam and Eve. They lived in a really pretty place and they could eat anything they wanted to eat except the fruit off of one tree. The place was called the Garden of Eating. I think if that's the case, I wouldn't mind spending a few days on holiday in the garden! Sounds nice, right?!

Talk a lot, talk a little more...

Dawsen is CONSTANTLY chatting. And it's not just chatter noise anymore, he's really saying things and in an amazingly clear way, although sometimes I feel like we're playing Mad Gab (good thing I'm the Mad Gab champ!). He surprises us everyday with the new phrases he picks up.

Last week Dawsen was sitting on my lap at the computer when Dallen started getting a little crazy. It started with slowly sliding himself off the back of the couch and progressed into a drop, then a little jump off the back. I told him to knock it off a couple times and then Dawsen chimed in with, "Dowen! Coo wit! Dass nuff! Dop it!" Hmmm...he must hear these things a lot!

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

My mom turned 60 yesterday! I'd been prepping Dallen on how old she was and also to tell her happy birthday. I said, "You know how you're FOUR and Dawsen is TWO? Grandma is SIXTY! That's a lot, huh?!" When we got to her house he delivered his happy birthday perfectly (which probably pleased him more than me). When I asked him if he remembered how old Grandma is he said, "SIXTEEN!!" Hmmm...I'm sure she'll take it.

What Daddies Do

Today during playtime at preschool the kids were upstairs with the play kitchen arranging their pretend family. Audrey deemed herself the mommy, Kayla the daughter, Dawsen the little baby and Dallen would be the daddy. After being frustrated with Dawsen for not laying down and pretending to be a little baby I had to tell them he'd be the little brother, but we couldn't make him be a little baby if he didn't want to be. After a few minutes Dallen found some dinosaurs and came downstairs into the family room to play by himself. I said, "Don't you wanna go upstairs and play with the other kids?" to which he replied, "I AM playing with the other kids." Okay. Whatever. A few minutes later Kayla called down the stairs, "Dallen, come up here! You're supposed to be the daddy!" Dallen said, "I AM being the daddy, Kayla! I'm at WORK!"

Pizza Pan

Dallen saw the movie Hook for the first time about a month or so ago and, to my true surprise, loved it. He ironically didn't care for the movie Peter Pan AT ALL. Still doesn't. Anyway...he loves to dress up as Hook (pics to come) and talk about Pizza Pan. We've diligently worked to correct him, but I have to admit it's pretty funny. So for now he will remain arch enemy, Pizza Pan.

A couple days ago I was at the hospital for a bloodtest and Dallen had come along dressed in full Hook gear. The lady at the front desk said, "Oh! How cute are you! Are you a prince today?" Dallen gave her the nastiest crusty, walked right up to her and stuck his hand (with the hook) in her face as if to say, "What's your problem lady? Didn't you see the hook?"

What The Heck Is That?

Although I don't really know when it began, each time Dawsen wakes up I get him out of his crib and we go peek between the blinds to see what's happening outside. He'll usually comment on seeing a tree, truck, kids, a dog or something like that. A couple days ago he peeked between the blinds and said, "What duh heck'n'dat?" I would respond with a very similar comment. Where the heck did you learn that? It's now one of his favorite things to say, yet when the camera comes out it went out the window, as it usually does. Here's the best we could do.

So Agreeable

Dallen has picked up some new phrases from somewhere. Lately he'll say to me, "Sure thing, Mom." What? Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT complaining about his compliance, but where in the world? The other one, which I've been hearing more often is, "That's a GREAT idea, Mom!" Why thank you, Dallen. I thought so myself. Who can't use someone in their life who makes them feel brilliant?

Silly Stripper

The early mornings we could stand, while Dawsen got used to not having the front of his crib on, but then IT began. The middle of the night visits. He'd wake up, get out of bed and come into our room dragging his blanket. Always with a book or a toy and ready to start the day. At 2 or 3 AM. Cute, but not THAT cute! So we'd put him back in bed again and again and again. Or, if we were too tired, pull him into bed with us for a few irritating minutes while he wiggled and talked and wiggled and talked. Then came THE NIGHT. After repeating the aforementioned cycles, he finally stayed in bed for about an hour. I woke up again to the sounds of him playing with the toy kitchen in his room. Whatever, I thought, as long as he stays in his room. Keep in mind it's around 3:30 AM. Then the sound of the door opening, the hall door opening, the drawers in the bathroom being emptied...things like that. We were both SO tired that although we heard it, it wasn't really registering. When it finally did I went to the bathroom just to see that he completely emptied all the drawers as well as my hall closet (think folded towels, washcloths, sheets, everything). So, back to bed where he actually stayed. First thing we did in the morning? The front of the crib back up.

Dawsen has figured out that one of the fun things to do in his crib, while waiting to fall asleep and again right when he wakes up, is to take off his clothes! He'll unzip his sleeper, let it slide off his shoulders and arms and then jump around until the rest is off. Then does he fall asleep? Hmmm...NO. I typically realize he's done this when he's been playing in there what I would deem too much time before falling asleep. I check on him and of course, redress him.

Or, after naps or first thing in the morning when I go to get him out of the crib I often find him without a shirt, with one arm out (isn't that more of a girl style?) or, if he's wearing a onesie, both arms out with the neck pushed down around his waist. The part that cracks me up with that last style is that he treats it like a skirt or something. He'll spin in circles or twist back and forth watching the sleeves sway with him. Weirdo.

Dance Off!

A few nights ago Dallen surprised us with this "break-dance." He even calls it that! Where he learned it we may never know. He says from Grandma and Grandmama, although I just can't imagine that. Enjoy. :)
